Iris, Alexandra, Mariela, Katerina and me
Lenio Kaklea, you are in charge of the DañsFabrik focus dedicated this year to Greek choreographers. How did you take on this request?
“It was a double request: Greece and women. This proposition was very close to who I am. Thus, I wondered how I live and build this double identity. I come from a Mediterranean country with institutional and financial difficulties situated at the limit of European east (and south). I am a woman and I am face to face with male hegemony. I am a foreigner, I have been living in a foreign country, France, for more than ten years. (…) This program reflects this fragmented, transitory, breakable and mixed identity which is mine. (…) Though interesting myself in women choreographic works has never been an exclusion principle. It is an opening and resistance principle towards unification policies in the artistic field set today by some cultural institutions.”
